Today I would like to welcome back to RFTC author, Jessica E. Subject. Jessica is currently on tour promoting the release of her book The Power of Three and has stopped by the blog to answer a few questions. Before I give the floor over to Jessica, let us learn some about her.
Jessica Subject started writing to encourage her daughter to read. Now she writes to keep herself grounded. Although she reads many genres, she enjoys writing Science Fiction Romance the most and believes everyone in the universe deserves a happily ever after. She lives Southwestern Ontario, Canada with her husband and two kids and loves to hear from anyone who has enjoyed her stories.
Places to find Jessica:
First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Thanks so much, Danielle for having me on your blog today!
I am a wife and mother of two. I write science fiction romance, as well as contemporary romance, and paranormal romance. I also enjoy reading and hiking when I get the chance.
Did you always want to be a writer?
No. When I was a child, I wanted to be so many things. I’ve always dabbled in writing, but never took it seriously. In high school, I decided I’d like to go into Marketing, and went to university for Business Administration. It wasn’t until I was on maternity leave with my second child that I considered writing as a career.
What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I’m somewhere in the middle. While I don’t plan my stories with a lot of detail, I have a general idea of what’s going to happen before I sit down to write. This plan comes after days of thinking about the story while in the shower (the best place to plot and work through plot holes), and maybe jotting down some notes on paper.
Where do your ideas come from?
Everyday life. Sometimes, it’s something someone says, something I see, a news article, something I see on television, a picture... The Power of Three was inspired by a conversation I had with a good friend.
A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
In this hot ménage-a-trois Oscar must convince Bo & Delayna to include him in their sexual activities & take advantage of the power of three
What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
Oh my gosh, I read so many types of stories. Most are romance, though I do read suspense thrillers, fantasy and more. The romances I read range from sweet to erotica. But then I also read young adult stories as well.
Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
I would have to say Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Here’s a list of some of the others I recommend: http://www.markofthestars.com/wp/?page_id=10218
What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
I used to think it was the sex scenes, but one of my critique partners helped me to become better at writing them. Recently, I just wrote a chase scene for the first time, and I found that difficult. I guess the thing is to practice writing them, and to study how other authors write those scenes that are difficult for me.
If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
This is such a hard question as there are so many authors I respect and would love to meet. Some I’ve already had the opportunity to meet, and learned so much from them. My first thought was my critique partners, but I have four of them, and would never want to exclude any one of them. I guess I would choose Nora Roberts, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Gini Koch whose books are amongst my favorites.
Last question, are you working on anything right now?
Yes, I’m always working on something. LOL I can’t stop. I have a new series that I’m working on called Alien Next Door, plus another 1Night Stand story, the second book in The Underground series, and I have much more planned that are both sci-fi romance, and contemporary romance.
Cursed to live amongst several stone gargoyle statues, Oscar watches a young couple, yearning to participate in their sexual activities. For he has been away from his own lovers for over a year, and longs to touch and be touched again.
When he tumbles off the headboard onto the couple, he is released from the statue but must find a way home. His only thought: a ménage with the man and woman who freed him. But will they try something new to grant him his return passage, or leave him wandering Earth alone?

On the day he’d been sucked away from his life partners, Catalis had arrived at his shared home, shouting curses and calling him out for not taking her as his mate. Against their advice, he left Lianna and Lewis on the love platform, anxious to dispose of their unwelcome visitor. But she had other ideas.
When he met her outdoors, she waved her arms in wide circles, uttering an ancient chant. Her malicious words drew the air around them into a swirling mass. Without the combined power of his mates, he was weak to stop her. Catalis used an energy field to bind him then tossed him into the center of the twister. Lianna and Lewis raced out the door and launched themselves onto the sorceress, but they were too late.
“You were in our statues?”
Oscar blinked hard, returning his attention to his hosts.
Bo’s eyes grew wide, his face a mess of contradictory emotions.
“Another lover?” Delayna asked.
“I’ve been able to move amongst the gargoyles you own for the past year. It feels like forever since I’ve seen Lianna and Lewis—my mates, my lovers.” A wave of sorrow threatened to wash over him, but one glimpse of the sparkle in her eyes brought back his immediate need.
“You’ve been spying on us for a year?” Bo turned to his wife. “I don’t believe this shit about being trapped, but there could be hidden cameras in your statues. I swear, Delayna. I’m throwing every single one of them away as soon as we get this whackjob out of the house.”
“Please, Bo.” She whispered something in his ear and he smiled until he caught Oscar looking at him.
Bo stood up, letting the pillow fall to the floor. “Like what you see?”
